Some time ago I made reference to myself as being "morbidly obese," and Rose was kind enough to refute that comment. Well, truth be told, I am definitely categorized as morbidly obese according to medical standards.
I have had a serious struggle with my weight for about 20 years, and I have decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery (GBS). I'm chronicling my weight loss surgery journey in a separate blog, which you can read here: http://ruthannzaroff.typepad.com/gbs/. I just made my first entry today (yesterday I had my first GBS consultation), including my "official" before photos.
It's hard to go public with one's weakness, but I know this is the right thing to do, and it's the right time to do it. Please keep my journey in your prayers!

Well, as you said on your other site, there is no magic in this. I have known people who had this surgery and did well, and others who wound up just as big down the road because the underlying eating problem remained. God willing, this will be the jumpstart you need to get your figure back.

Good luck, Ruthann! I appreciate your honesty and your blog. I loved your posts on your Catholic journey and your love affair with the Rosary. There is great beauty in realizing that the Church holds so much for us -- when we thought it held so little. Someday I'll have to tell my kids that I only went to Confession once between the time I was 10 and the first time my dear husband made me go at age 25! Yikes, Yikes Yikes! What was I thinking? What were my parents thinking?
Hello to you from Texas! Good luck on your surgery and diet. I need some inspiration!
